Staffing issues first!  Firstly, a very Happy 21st Birthday to our Laura from the Ticket Office! Slightly hungover, but at least she’s at work, all present & correct! Someone pass the Nurofen!

Happy Birthday to you......

Then we bid a sad farewell to our Fifi, or Deansy as she’s affectionately known. There’s been a Deans working at the castle coffeeshop every year for the last 8 years, and the place just won’t be the same without at least one of the three siblings! Good luck Fiona, you’ll be missed!

For those traditional music lovers coming up to the castle in July, I’ve got a wee treat for you. For the 5th consecutive year, we will be welcoming “Ceilair” , Skye & Lochalsh ceilidh-trail young musicians to Eilean Donan. These fabulously talented musicians will be playing free concerts outside the castle during the day between 11.00am and 3.00pm on the 16th, 22nd and 28th of July.

Then on the evening of Thursday 29th of July they shall be performing an evening concert inside the Banqueting Hall of the castle itself as a fund-raising event for the Dornie Kids Christmas Party. The natural acoustics of this room lend themselves perfectly to traditional instruments, and previous events have been a sell-out! For a wee taste of what they do click on the following link – Ceilair. Tickets available price £10.

As much as the NW Highlands and Islands  is a stronghold for traditional music and has a wealth of really talented young musicians, this part of our culture and heritage is under severe threat from budget cuts for childrens music tuition, so we try and support this great bunch whenever we possibly can. If you’re around while they’re here please come along!

Ceilear

On a slightly different note, we have a another Spanish wedding at the castle tonight with 56 guests having made the long trip over from Spain. What a stunning looking bride! Spanish visitors to Eilean Donan number in the 10s of thousands every year, our biggest international sector. There’s a great affinity between the two countries, and they love the fact that we have the ghost of a Spanish Officer ” Carlos” roaming the castle. We host weddings from all over the world, and in this age of electronic communications, it’s really not very difficult to organise a wedding in the highlands.

One last wee gem, our pair of mating otters were spotted on the island again this morning. We’re hoping for some new additions soon! (;-D)

Enjoy your weekend folks!

  1. As much as we like the picture of Fifi I am sure one of the mating otters would be a much bigger draw!!! We await with baited breath….

    • LOL, David in my experience, the one thing you can guarantee with otters is that when you have a camera with you they never appear! The time when you don’t expect them and have no camera to hand, that’s when they show up!

  2. Please tell Laura “happy birthday” from the state of Texas! Love the posts!
